Stock Image Photography

Today I thought of something that I have never really thought of and even considered, yes, it’s stock image photography. How far behind the times am I? I had a look on a few websites, istockphoto, Fotolia, Shutterstock and the likes and it seems that there are loads, in fact millions of images on these image libraries. I began to think of how can I take a photograph so that someone or some company would choose my photograph over millions of photographs that are on these Stock Photography websites..? Well, the answer is….. I really don’t know, it seems an impossible task if you ask me. However, I do think that you need to think outside the box with what you are trying to photograph and sell. I looked at lots of photographs and thought that most food and drink is covered, most office people are covered. I am going to have a good think about it but what I have done in the mean time is submit 4 images to a website called alamy.com. They asked for 4 images that will be scrutinised for image blur, brightness and many other defects. If the approve them then I will be able to start to submit more… I decided to play safe with my four photographs. I went for cherry tomatoes, a mini daffodil, some broccoli and a toy combine harvester an odd selection yes, but that’s all I could find. I got out my Bowen’s studio lights and made up a small makeshift studio. Below are the four I decided to send off. As soon as I find out I will write another blog to let you know my results whether I’m in or not. They do say that if you don’t get in they give you a report, so this could prove interesting.
